Grand Canyon or bust!

Tyler and I just got back from our adventures all over Utah! It was a fantastic trip we made with our friends Hollie and David. We began the trip on Friday night after Tyler got off work. As soon as he got home we headed down to Cedar City and stayed the night at Hollie's house. Then Saturday morning we somehow managed to cram a weeks worth of camping supplies, food, and ourselves in the Geiger's Toyota (which of course was the better option than a Colt!)

Our first stop was a place called Calf Creek, where we did a 3 mile hike up to a beautiful waterfall! It was really hot that day so when we got to the waterfall it felt really good since the wind was blowing the cold water everywhere! After we hiked three miles back to the car we drove to a little tiny town called Boulder (not Colorodo) where we ate dinner! Boulder was in the middle of nowhere, so we had to take a picture of the nothingness in front of the restaurant that we ate at.


After dinner drove through Capitol Reef where there were some cool Petroglyphs. Then we continued onward to Goblin Valley, where we planned on stayin the night. But when we made it out there, the campground was already full! The sun was close to setting so we pulled off a little ways away from the campground and made our own campsite! It was a good spot because someone had already made a fire pit for before and was even nice enough to leave us wood! So we made a fire and roasted marshmallows :)here is our campsite in the middle of nothing!


The next morning we got up and saw Goblin Valley, which is a whole bunch of little rock formations that are called goblins!

We are in our church clothes becuase later that day we went to church in a small town called Green River. After church we headed on over to Moab, to go explore Arches National Park!
It was really really windy that day, so we didn't do a lot of hiking at first becuase Hollie and I were still in skirts. After we saw the delicate arch in the distance we changed and did some real sight seeing! My favorite arch was the double arch! We found out that this arch is is the 3rd Indiana Jones! Go watch it and you'll see!


After a long day in Arches we went to eat at a Thai restaurant in Moab, which actually turned out to be pretty good- I was kinda scared cuz I've never eaten Thai before! Then that night we had to quickly find a campsite because it was already dark when we were leaving the restauraunt. So we found one about 30 miles out of Moab. It continued to be extremely windy that night, which made it really difficult to set up our tent and to sleep! It was so bad that it kept blowing sand through into our tent, even though it had a cover. So in the middle of the night we kept wiping sand off our faces! Ick :P

The next morning we drove to a lookout point that overlooked Canyonlands, which is basically a land of canyons!

Then a little further down the road we stopped off at a place called Newspaper rock, which was really cool. It was a huge rock covered with petroglyphs. All these pictures make you wonder what the indians meant when they carved these! Are they stories? Or were they just doodling... who knows!



Then we headed over to Mesa Verde, which happens to be in Colorodo! I had no idea! There was road construction going on in the park, which means it took us FOREVER to drive up to see it! So Mesa Verde is where there are cliff dwellings from the Anasazi Indians, that were aparently built like 1200 years ago, or something like that... pretty cool! The most exciting part is that they actually let you climb down to them and get a close look!

Then after Mesa Verde we hopped in the car once more and headed towards Page, Arizona. On our way we made a stop at Four Corners just to find out they were...

closed?! Good thing we got all these pictures!





Then the next morning we headed to the grandest destination of all.... the Grand Canyon! This whole trip the weather had been getting colder and windier as we went, and finally as we were driving into the Grand Canyon it started to SNOW!!! And yes, Tyler and I were wearing shorts! Icaramba! At first we were really upset becuase you couldn't see anything because the Grand Canyon was full of fog, but luckily the wind followed us and blew the storm away! So even though we could see the grandness of the grand canyon, the wind was freezing cold... and we were still wearing shorts :)

After we were done at the grand canyon we drove back to Page. Then the next morning we packed up the car once more and headed back to Cedar City transferred our stuff into the Colt and drove home to Uintah! So if you're thinking, wow! That sounds like a lot of driving... yes! Yes it was a lot of driving! Good thing Hollie crammed the car 99% full of snacks! We also played a lot of car games to keep us busy too! It was totally worth all the driving though!
